1 February 2008: Dreams Come True online sweepstakes

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Feb. 1, 2008 – Disney.com announced today the launch of the first ever Dreams Come True online sweepstakes, in partnership with Disney Parks. The sweepstakes, which celebrates the Year of a Million Dreams at Disney Parks, gives Disney fans the opportunity to win one of five Disney Parks magical vacations. The Grand Prize trip is a vacation at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, including one night in the heart of the Park in the all new Disneyland Dream Suite, which has been created based on designs originally made for Walt Disney himself. Fans can visit www.Disney.com/Dreams and enter once a day, every day in February – each daily entry is an additional chance to win.

Each entry instantly wins a limited edition digital prize such as a Mickey Mouse bobble head, a Disney Princesses snow globe, a Hannah Montana clock or a vintage Disney characters calendar. Throughout the month of February, fans are encouraged to collect the entire set of digital prizes by visiting Disney.com/Dreams and entering the Dreams Come True sweepstakes.

“The Dreams Come True sweepstakes is an exciting opportunity for us to partner with Disney Parks to offer fans a chance to actually stay in the Disneyland Dream Suite, a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend the night inside the Happiest Place on Earth,” stated Petrina Walker, vice president of marketing, Disney Online.

The Disneyland Dream Suite was recently restored by Disney Imagineers, who remodeled a suite of rooms above Pirates of the Caribbean in the New Orleans Square area of Disneyland. The Suite was originally conceived by Walt Disney as a private apartment for his family and closest friends. Vintage design illustrations, created under Disney’s personal direction, were recovered and used as inspiration for the look, furnishings and other décor elements in the Suite. Special design touches were incorporated to evoke memories of Disney’s diverse interests and the rich heritage of Disneyland Resort.

Fans can visit www.Disney.com/Dreams each day during the month of February to enter the sweepstakes, collect limited edition digital prizes and view a video tour of the Grand Prize Disneyland Dream Suite.

The Dreams Come True sweepstakes is one more way in which Disney Parks in California and Florida are creating magical memories during the “Year of a Million Dreams.” Guests have more opportunities than ever before to encounter beloved Disney characters, share the spotlight in immersive live shows, or experience dazzling new attractions like the interactive ride-through video game Toy Story Mania! premiering in 2008 at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.

25 January 2008: New photos in the Disney Dream Portrait Series

From Never Land to flying carpets to the forested domain of an Indian princess, stars travel to their very own Fantasylands in a new round of celebrity images from famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The new images continue the “Disney Dream Portrait Series” of celebrity photography produced by Leibovitz as Disney Parks extends, through 2008, its “Year of a Million Dreams” celebration on both coasts. Leibovitz’s images capture the transformational power of Disney dreams during a celebration that invites visitors to live out their own Disney dreams as never before at California’s Disneyland and Florida’s Walt Disney World resorts.

2 October 2007: Disney officially extends Year of a Million Dreams

(Oct. 1, 2007) – Disney Parks announced today that its “Year of a Million Dreams” celebration will extend throughout 2008 at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, highlighted by the debut of blockbuster attractions and entertainment – and the 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway in which Disney will award more than one million more dreams.

“Our guests tell us they see Disney theme parks as the place where their dreams come true,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.  “That has never been more true than during ‘The Year of a Million Dreams.’  The 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway is a chance for us to award even more over-the-top experiences that can only come true at Disney.”

In a bi-coastal event that began in late 2006, guests have discovered that wishing upon a star isn’t the only way to make their dreams come true.  By being in the right place at the right time at Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts, more than one million guests have been selected through a random process as winners in the Disney Dreams Giveaway.  Dreams also were awarded to mail-in participants.

When it was time to decide what to do for an encore in 2008, Disney Parks heard resoundingly from guests.  They asked for:
More dreams.
Even bigger dreams.
More dreams money can’t buy.
More dreams that only Disney can make come true.

Building on the incredible success of 2007, Disney’s magic-makers went back to their dream drawing board.  They created over-the-top experiences for the 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway that will be awarded to eligible lucky guests and mail-in participants, including:

  • A chance for guests to stay inside Disneyland Park;
  • A private day at Disney’s tropical island paradise, Castaway Cay;
  • A New Year’s Eve night stay inside Cinderella Castle Suite at Walt Disney World Resort;
  • A star-studded trip to the “High School Musical 3” film premiere;
  • A flight of fancy in a hot air balloon above a Disney theme park.

These magical, money-can’t-buy Disney dreams and more are featured in a first-ever online catalog known as the Disney Dreams Catalog.  Disney fans can flip through and browse the catalog at www.DisneyParks.com/DreamCatalog.

But that’s not all.

In 2008, Disney will award hundreds of thousands of dreams in all shapes and sizes, including Dream FASTPASS badges, gourmet dining packages, special viewing for parades, Disney shopping sprees, an additional hour – known as Dream Time – for chosen guests to enjoy a Disney park, or special Dream Mouse Ears or Pin and Lanyard sets.

It all adds up to over one million more dreams that will be awarded in 2008.

While full prize descriptions and a peek into the Disney Dreams Catalog can be found at www.DisneyParks.com/DreamCatalog, highlights of the 2008 Disney Dreams Giveaway include:

Reign at Disney’s Private Island for the Day:  One winner will be awarded Disney’s private Bahamian paradise for the day.  Castaway Cay, the Disney Cruise Line private island, will allow the winner and up to three guests to lounge in the lap of tropical luxury – all by themselves – with Disney amenities at their fingertips, including gourmet dining, recreation, beachfront cabana massages, entertainment and overnight accommodations on a private yacht.

Spend the Night Inside Disneyland in Walt’s Dream Suite:  Using architectural renderings that Walt Disney himself commissioned for an in-park, family retreat that was never completed, Disneyland Resort is creating a lavish new guest suite in the park’s New Orleans Square.  Beginning Jan. 31, 2008 – and continuing most nights throughout the year – a different winner will be chosen through a random process to bring up to five guests to live Walt’s dream and spend that night in the Disneyland Dream Suite inside Disneyland Park.

Be the Guest of Honor at the Largest Character Breakfast in Magic Kingdom History:  On Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort, one winner and up to three guests will be treated to an unprecedented ultimate Disney character breakfast, with  at least 25 Disney characters in attendance, including Mickey and Minnie.  Served in the shadow of Cinderella Castle, it will be the largest Magic Kingdom character breakfast ever presented – and it will all be in honor of one lucky winner.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve Inside Cinderella Castle:  One of the most magical nights of the year, New Year’s Eve, will be celebrated in royal style Dec. 31, 2008, by a winner and up to three guests inside the Cinderella Castle Suite, in the heart of Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort.

See the Stars at the “High School Musical 3” World Premiere: Two winners and up to three guests each will attend the star-studded film premiere of “High School Musical 3,” the next installment of the record-setting Disney Channel movie series.  One prize includes a VIP vacation to Disneyland Resort in California and the other features a VIP vacation to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida where the music and excitement of “High School Musical” comes to life in high-energy shows.

Become a “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” to a Disney Imagineer:  Taking on the honorary role of a “Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” one winner and a guest will get to peek behind the magic for a day and enter the secret labs of Walt Disney Imagineering.  The prize includes a tour of the Walt Disney Imagineering campus and an Imagineer-guided tour of Disneyland Park.

Become Disney’s Grand Marshal Around the Globe:  One winner and up to three guests will be sent on a 15-day whirlwind tour of four Disney destinations – Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Resort Paris.  At each stop on the magical journey, the winner will serve as Honorary Grand Marshal of Disney’s daily parade.

And, just as both vacation resorts did throughout 2007, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort also will introduce new attractions, shows and immersive entertainment as “The Year of a Million Dreams” continues through 2008.

The Toys are Back in Town in a New Disney•Pixar-inspired Attraction
Beginning in summer 2008, the toys are back in town at Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts with Toy Story Mania! an attraction that combines the popular characters from the smash hit Disney•Pixar “Toy Story” films with whiz-bang technology to create an interactive ride-through video game – in three dimensions.  Guests board fanciful ride vehicles and zip into a world of exciting midway-style games.  Using spring-action “shooters,” they launch darts at balloons, toss rings at aliens and throw eggs at whimsical barnyard targets to see who can score the most points.  And it’s all presented in stunning 3-D technology designed by Walt Disney Imagineering.  In California, guests will try their luck inside Disney’s California Adventure, while at Walt Disney World Resort, the ‘toon fun will be found inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Interactive Entertainment Brings Dreams to Life for Guests of All Ages
Disney Parks’ unique brand of entertainment that makes guests the stars of the show – literally – will continue to share the spotlight at Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts during “The Year of a Million Dreams” 2008, with expanded offerings that feature be-bopping, lightsaber-wielding and pirate-plundering fun.
It’s this type of interactivity that allows guests to live the fanciful dreams of their imagination.  Some of the highlights for 2008:

  • Disney•Pixar Parades Debut on Both Coasts:  The Disney•Pixar fun will continue to rock and roll throughout Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in 2008, as characters from smash-hit animated films like “Toy Story,” “The Incredibles,” “Monster’s, Inc.” and “A Bug’s Life” take to the street in “Block Party Bash.”  Disneyland Resort will be the home to the new “Pixar Play! Parade,” an all-new Disney•Pixar-inspired parade that invites guests to play and dance along with favorite characters from hit films like “Toy Story,” “A Bug’s Life,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles,” “Cars” and “Ratatouille.”

  • Wildcat Fever Pitch Spreads Across Disney Parks:  “Wildcat fever” has guests dancing in the streets at Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts in the new “High School Musical 2: School’s Out!” interactive show.  Inspired by the Disney Channel’s record-breaking, original film, “High School Musical 2,” the high-energy cast invites guests to join the fun as they sing and dance along to the movie’s hit tunes.  “High School Musical 2: School’s Out!” concludes with an all-out dance finale featuring one of the film’s soundtrack hits, “All for One,” and a reprise of “We’re All in This Together,” from the original “High School Musical” film.  “High School Musical 2: School’s Out!” is presented multiple times daily at Disney’s California Adventure in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.

  • ‘Obi-Wanna Bes’ Learn the Ways of the Force:  Taking a cue from the popular Star Wars™ Saga, the power of the Force and the magic of Disney combine for “Jedi Training Academy,” an original and intergalactic entertainment experience.  Young Jedi hopefuls – known in ‘Star Wars-speak’ as “Padawans” – learn lightsaber moves from a Jedi Master before facing off in a final test against the evil Darth Vader.  Created with Lucasfilm Ltd., “Jedi Training Academy” is presented multiple times daily, adjacent to the popular Star Tours attraction, at both the Disneyland Park in California and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.

  • Playhouse Disney Rocks the Mouse House:  Debuting at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts in 2008 will be some of the most beloved characters from the Disney Channel lineup in “Playhouse Disney-Live on Stage!” – a singing, clapping and be-bopping show.  Designed for preschoolers, the show stars favorites from popular Disney Channel programs including “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Little Einsteins,” “Handy Manny” and more.

  • A Pirate’s Life for Me!:  Building on the worldwide popularity of Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” films and attractions, Captain Jack Sparrow and his band of merry mates invite guests to their world of adventure at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts.  At Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort, Captain Jack himself leads a series of pirate “skill tests” to find honorary crew members, while at Disneyland Park, young buccaneers can enjoy the new Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, an island of interactive adventures and immersive entertainment for plundering pirates of all ages.

  • Have Some Hootin’ & Hollerin’ Fun with Woody, Jessie & Bullseye:  There’s a rootin’ tootin’ good time in store as Woody, Jessie and Bullseye from the hit Disney•Pixar film “Toy Story 2” invite everyone to “Woody’s Cowboy Camp!” in the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom.  Designed for younger cowpokes, the rollicking hoedown features an Old West obstacle course – maneuvering around parents donning hats shaped like cacti, mountains and mine shafts.  It’s kick-up-the-spurs, hootin’ and hollerin’ fun as the cowboy spirit comes to life on the dusty streets of Frontierland in Florida.

  • A Magical Main Street, U.S.A. Parade:  Guests are able to parade down Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom in Florida alongside favorite Disney characters in an interactive parade.  For guests, it’s a pennant-waving, drum-beating rush as they join characters to march alongside parade floats, a marching band and an old-timey fire truck.  To accommodate pint-size paraders and their parents, there’s even a “stroller drill team.”

27 January 2007: Photography Featuring Scarlett Johansson, Beyoncé and David Beckham Kicks Off Disney's 'Year of a Million Dreams'

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2007) -- To launch Disney Parks "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration, spectacular new images were unveiled today featuring the work of acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz, and starring Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella, Beyoncé taking a spin in a giant teacup and David Beckham slaying a dragon.

Leibovitz's images also fulfill one of Beckham's "dreams," as the Disney Parks project is his first endorsement since signing a contract to play professional soccer in the United States.

In addition to the three debut images, Disney Parks has commissioned more images by Leibovitz that will feature other celebrities in classic, Disney fairy tale settings.

Asked by Disney Parks to lend her vision to the campaign, Leibovitz has created inspired images of storybook fantasy come to life. Her photographs for the campaign embody the captivating, narrative style indicative of her world-renowned work.

"I'm really delighted to be part of the 'Where Dreams Come True' campaign," said Leibovitz. "We live in difficult times and I feel, especially as a parent, that keeping dreams alive is one of the most important things we can do."

Each image features a scene with the featured celebrities transformed into the role of a fabled Disney character, expressing their own dreams and imagination.

  • As Cinderella, Scarlett Johansson is seen running down a flight of stairs as the clock strikes midnight with her glass slipper unknowingly left behind. The tagline reads, "Where every Cinderella story comes true."

Befitting a true princess, Johansson wears a stunning, one-of-a-kind Harry Winston tiara -- a dazzling piece in platinum with more than 62 carats of sparkling diamonds and valued at $325,000. The dress worn by Johansson is a custom-made, Cinderella-inspired gown designed by Nicoletta Santoro.

  • David Beckham plays the part of the gallant Prince Phillip from "Sleeping Beauty," atop his trusted steed fighting the evil dragon. The tagline reads, "Where imagination saves the day."

"There were many Disney characters I liked as a kid," said Beckham. "Now my sons love the Disney characters and it's a big part of their lives, a big part of many children's lives around the world. So to be part of that is an honor and very exciting.
"I love going to Disney, I'm like a big kid," he added.

  • Beyoncé appears as "Alice in Wonderland," twirling in a teacup, accompanied by Oliver Platt as the Mad Hatter and Lyle Lovett as the March Hare. The tagline reads, "Where Wonderland is your destiny."

"It's two great imaginations coming together -- Disney and Annie Leibovitz," said Lovett. "To be along for the ride really is quite something, just knowing that you're going to be part of a great Disney character. And then when you step into the imagination of Annie Leibovitz, you know you're in another world."

25 January 2007: Cinderella Castle Suite details revealed

A Day (and a Night) in the Life of the Cinderella Castle Suite

  • Each morning, a magical time and place is randomly selected from anywhere on Walt Disney World property to find a winner of a night in the Cinderella Castle Suite.
  • A Disney Dream Squad of cast members is advised of the selection, heads to the location and identifies the winning guest from the selection criteria.
  • The Disney Dream Squad informs the guest of their prize, explains the details of the prize and asks if they want to accept it.
  • If they accept, after a short verification process, the fanfare begins. (If the guest does not accept the prize, the computer randomly selects another lucky guest. The computer will select up to three guests each day.)
  • The winner and up to five guests head back to their hotel to pack an overnight bag. Then it's on to their day of royalty.
  • First event is a photo session on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom. They are proclaimed royalty for the day and led down Main Street to their suite.
  • The Royal Concierge checks them into the suite and gives them a formal tour, regaling them with the history and spectacle of the suite's royal heritage.
  • After a bit of free time to explore their imperial quarters, the winning family is awarded one of the highest honors bestowed on guests of Magic Kingdom as they become Grand Marshals of the "Disney Dreams Come True" parade.
  • Following more luxurious relaxation time in the suite, the winner's magical evening begins with dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table, a feast fit for a monarch, with a meet-and-greet with Cinderella.
  • Dinner is capped with VIP viewing of the "SpectroMagic" nighttime parade and "Wishes" fireworks spectacular. *
  • For up to two hours after the scheduled close of the park, the family will have access to Magic Kingdom with a VIP Guest Relations cast member.  This will allow them to enjoy the atmosphere of the park before they retire for the evening.  Suggested after-hours tours will be available which include modified versions of "Art of the Theme Show" and "Keys to the Kingdom," which are tours that explore the history and creativity behind Magic Kingdom. This special "after hours" opportunity gives these guests an amazing opportunity to see Magic Kingdom in a way that few guests have experienced.
  • Then it's back to the suite for a night of "suite dreams." At the suite, they discover their beds turned down with royal sweets, and their room stocked with a variety of snacks and drinks. (The Royal Concierge is just a stone's throw away should the family require anything during the night.)
  • After a glorious night's sleep in the royal chamber, the winning family is awakened by a personalized wake-up call from Cinderella.
  • Then, as with every fairytale, the clock strikes and the family returns to their magical vacation, checking out of the Cinderella Castle Suite, which is then readied for the next day's royal visitors.
    * Available most non-special-event nights.

27 November 2006: Family Awarded Dream Vacation as part of "Year of a Million Dreams"

'A simple tap on the shoulder was all it took for the Hawkins family of Miramar, Fla. to win a dream vacation to Walt Disney World Resort as part of Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams." As they exited the Spaceship Earth attraction in Epcot on Nov. 22, 2006, they were randomly chosen by a member of the Disney "Dream Squad" to receive the vacation for four to return to Walt Disney World Resort, valued at more than $5,000. The Hawkins also were named "Grand Marshals" for the day at Epcot and taken on a VIP ride, high atop a double-decker bus, through the park with the Disney characters.'

4 October 2006: Cinderella Castle Royal Bed Chamber

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- For decades, Walt Disney World guests have dreamed of spending the night in Cinderella Castle -- a night when, as the clock strikes 12, the magic doesn't end. And during "The Year of a Million Dreams," a 15-month celebration, the dream will finally come true for lucky guests following a magical transformation within the Magic Kingdom landmark.

Unused space originally envisioned as in-park accommodations for the Disney family is being transformed into Cinderella Castle Suite -- a place where lucky Walt Disney World guests will spend a dream-come-true night beginning in late January 2007.

Eligible guests will be selected as part of the unique Disney Dreams Giveaway, which began Oct. 1, 2006. For the castle stay, a Walt Disney World guest at a park or Downtown Disney will be selected randomly by early in the afternoon most days beginning in late January. The guest and up to five members of their party will begin their dream-come-true night that evening at Cinderella's Royal Table, the popular restaurant located in Cinderella Castle. (Because the Castle stay requires same-day use, mail-in winners will be awarded a prize of comparable value.)

After the rest of the Magic Kingdom guests have headed home, these lucky guests can keep the castle lights burning brightly well into the night, wrapping themselves in the cozy comforts of their dream suite -- a salon, bedchamber and bathroom off of a private marble-floored lobby some four stories above the surrounding Magic Kingdom, replete with rich details befitting the 17th century fairytale and the French chateaus that inspired the design of Cinderella Castle:

COPYRIGHT 2006. THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY

Fluffy feather comforters beneath the regal canopy draping of two queen beds ... A cut-stone bedchamber floor inspired by the mosaic art masterpiece that adorns the castle's breezeway entrance to Fantasyland ... ... A parlor sofa that invites kicking off the shoes and curling up to read a chapter beneath a vaulted ceiling of the salon ... Rich, wood-paneled walls, stained-glass windows, and glimpses of the familiar gray castle stone.

While the idea of having living quarters inside Cinderella Castle dates to the time when Walt Disney World Resort was being planned, until now the space has been a backstage area -- essentially a blank canvas for a creative team from Walt Disney Imagineering. In the fashion of a Disney attraction, Cinderella Castle Suite is emerging regally from their meticulous research and design skills.

"The architecture of the castle, the Cinderella story and the suite are all interwoven," said Stephen Silvestri, the Walt Disney Imagineering show producer/director who is leading a team of designers and craftsmen in the dream makeover. "We want our guests to feel as though they are inside our castle but also immersed within the fantasy realm of the Cinderella story."

In the lobby of the suite, guests will discover a design of the fairytale pumpkin coach in the marble floor inlay. A memorable artifact from the story -- perhaps the famous glass slipper -- will adorn a cove. And through the doorway, the bedchamber and salon are appointed with furnishings in the style of the era of "the Louies," as Silvestri refers to the French rulers of the period inspiring the castle and Cinderella story. Nooks showcase sculpted pieces, clocks and porcelain all befitting the period. Doors are richly detailed; the walls are covered with wood panels and wall coverings. In the bathroom, hand-decorated copper basins sit atop the vanity, recalling a time when fresh water was carried to the bedchamber.

Despite all the careful attention to centuries-old details, the amenities of the Cinderella Castle Suite are definitely 21st century. There's a lavish garden tub plus a shower. There are also wheelchair accessible bathroom and bedroom facilities and elevator access to the suite. As for a 17th-century-style painting above a regal fireplace: it frames a modern 21st-century flat-screen television.

"We want to balance the practical realities within the fantasy place to make the experience truly a dream-come-true for our guests," Silvestri said.

4 October 2006: Magic Kingdom Opens For Only One (Very Lucky) Family As Disney Parks Kick Off 'Year of a Million Dreams'

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Oct. 4, 2006) -- For the first time in history, a family today had the Magic Kingdom all to themselves. They entered the park to a view never seen before by any Disney guest -- Main Street, U.S.A. completely empty, no other guests, no Disney cast members, just a red carpet stretching out a welcome.

The family had their pick of favorite attractions. There were no lines. Because no one else was there.

This unprecedented moment in Disney history was all part of the launch of Disney's "The Year of a Million Dreams" celebration, during which literally millions of dreams will come true at Florida's Walt Disney World Resort and California's Disneyland Resort.

"The Year of a Million Dreams" is a first-of-its-kind event celebrating the individual dreams of Disney Park guests from around the world. So Disney made the Spangler family from Randolph, Ohio -- winners of an online sweepstakes used to help kick off the celebration -- the ultimate, one-of-a-kind Magic Kingdom VIPs. Disney Parks literally rolled out the red carpet for the Spanglers on Main Street, U.S.A. at Walt Disney World Resort.

But there were more surprises in store. As the Spanglers reached the center of Main Street, U.S.A., fanfare trumpeters broke the morning silence from atop the buildings lining the street and the familiar strains of "Be Our Guest" began to play -- a signal for a whole lot of smiles. Appearing almost magically to form a receiving line fit for royalty were 1,500 Disney cast members and Disney characters, beaming and bubbly.

For the Spanglers, their morning was nothing short of incredible. In a park that hosts millions of guests each year, Magic Kingdom attendance was four as Ray and Tammy Spangler and their children, 13-year-old Derick and 11-year-old Ashley, walked toward Cinderella Castle between rows of smiles lining the red carpet. "It was amazing," said Ashley. Derick chimed in, "That was awesome!" With their Disney VIP host leading the way, they rode their favorite attractions, met their favorite Disney characters, appeared on ABC-TV's "Good Morning America" and lived out a dream.

"This is beyond the dream," Ray said. "This is something that you can't even think of dreaming of, yet we have it."

As the lands of the park filled in behind them with other guests, the Spanglers dined with Disney royalty in Cinderella Castle during A Fairytale Lunch at Cinderella's Royal Table and were named grand marshals for the "Disney Dreams Come True" parade. They were to conclude the day with an "unbirthday party" inspired by the "Alice in Wonderland" story and then enjoy exclusive viewing of the Magic Kingdom fireworks spectacular "Wishes."

For Tammy Spangler, winning this most remarkable experience was a dream-come-true -- but one she figured was probably a proverbial "pipedream" when she entered the sweepstakes.

"I hardly ever enter these things," she said, "but Disney's the most fun we've ever had on vacation, so when I discovered the contest when I was [online], I entered it. But I really didn't figure we'd win, not in a million years."

But this is "The Year of a Million Dreams" and the Spanglers won't be the only ones finding their dreams come true at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

During "The Year of a Million Dreams" celebration, literally millions of dreams will come true.

"Our guests the world over have told us they believe a Disney Park is the place 'where dreams come true' and that something magical happens when they walk through our gates," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "And that's never been more true than during 'The Year of a Million Dreams' as we bring more magic to life than ever before."

Dreams to surprise and delight guests and unique experiences will be hallmarks of "The Year of a Million Dreams."

As part of the celebration, extra-special dreams will be awarded through a random process as part of the unique Disney Dreams Giveaway. With the sprinkle of a little pixie dust by day, a vacationing mom might be chosen to spend that night with her family in a new royal suite inside Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World Resort, or at Disneyland, a lucky guest may be surrounded by All Things Mickey that night in a new Mickey Mouse Penthouse overlooking the Disney domain in California.

Disney Vacation Club memberships, traveling around the world as a parade grand marshal in each Disney theme park, sporting exclusive pins and Mouse ears -- dreams from fun to fantastic will shower down on guests during the celebration. Other amazing dreams-come-true: magical Disney Cruise Line sailings; Adventures by Disney vacations; a private shopping spree for Disney merchandise; Dream FASTPASS badges to enjoy many popular park attractions; special park after-hour events; or a visit to Walt Disney's apartment at Disneyland including a dining experience.

For the overnight stay in the Cinderella Castle Suite, a Walt Disney World guest at the parks or Downtown Disney will be selected randomly by early in the afternoon almost every day beginning in late January. The guest and up to five members of their party will begin their dream-come-true night that evening at Cinderella's Royal Table, the popular restaurant located in Cinderella Castle.

Can't be in the parks? You may still have a dream-come-true through a mail-in entry (details at www.disneyparks.com/rules). For example, mail-in winners could win prizes such as the Disney Vacation Club membership, grand marshal of a Disney parade around the world, exclusive trading pins or Mickey Ear Hat. (Some prizes, such as the Castle and Mickey Mouse Penthouse stay, require same-day use so mail-in winners will receive a prize of comparable value.)

Dreams will be awarded every day at Disney parks and Downtown Disney in Florida and California. While workers complete the Cinderella Castle Suite (opening late January 2007) and Mickey Mouse Penthouse (opening December 2006), the other fantasies begin Oct. 1 as Disney launches enough dreams to make Tinker Bell blush.

And all it takes: a tap on the shoulder by Disney cast members on special assignment as the Dream Squad during the magical year.

Meanwhile, thousands more Disney cast members -- famous for guest service every day of the year -- will be creating an unprecedented number of Magical Moments during this magical year. They're taking Disney friendliness to new heights with personal interactions marked by special surprises.

Amazed guests might find themselves leading the countdown and sprinkling pixie dust to open a Disney park in the morning. Or they might join the performers on a float in "Mickey's Jammin' Jungle" parade. Or aboard Cinderella's Golden Carrousel they might suddenly find a Disney princess sidesaddle on the next horse.

More pixie-dusted Magical Moments: being selected to be guest of honor in daily park parades; getting a Tinseltown rush doing a celebrity-style handprint ceremony; being Official Wildlife Spotter on a Disney's Animal Kingdom safari.

"Disney cast members have a rich history of making this magic, treating guests to legendary service and special moments," Rasulo said. "During 'The Year of a Million Dreams,' those moments go stratospheric as our cast members reinforce Disney parks as the place where dreams come true."

A first-of-its-kind Disney spectacular, "The Year of a Million Dreams" also includes a whole lineup of immersive entertainment that draws guests into the middle of the action.

Guests can enter into magical worlds, living the buccaneer life by being a pirate of the Caribbean, "getting royal" with a Disney prince or princess, or joining in the dancing and singing "High School Musical" pep rally. Guests at Walt Disney World Resort might be welcomed to saddle up cowboy-style with Woody and the Disney-Pixar gang.

As if thousands of dreams bestowed daily aren't enough, Disney guests will also be treated to major new attractions and shows debuting at Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts as part of "The Year of a Million Dreams."

On top of an already magical year, special entertainment and programs will be in place at the parks and resorts so guests can follow their dreams, whether it's a princess or pirate, adventurer or space explorer. Guests will be able to customize their visit to a Disney park to pursue the Dream Paths of their choice with online planning tools and technology to help them become the hero or princess they've always dreamed of being.

3 October 2006: Disney’s ‘Year of a Million Dreams’ begins

As if they've been tapped on the shoulder by a magic wand, Disney Parks guests -- thousands every day -- are about to enter a whole new world.

For 15 magical months beginning Oct. 1, a spectacular Disney event like none other will celebrate the dreams of guests. Dreams that make them smile. Dreams that soar and spark the imagination. Dreams that fulfill their grandest Disney fantasies. Dreams from once upon a time to happily ever after.

During "The Year of a Million Dreams" celebration, literally millions of dreams will come true at Florida's Walt Disney World Resort and California's Disneyland Resort.

As if thousands of dreams bestowed daily aren't enough, Disney guests will also be treated to major new attractions and shows debuting at Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts as part of "The Year of a Million Dreams":

At Walt Disney World Resort in Florida

"The Seas with Nemo & Friends." Epcot's newest attraction picks up where the Disney-Pixar animated hit "Finding Nemo" left off. Amazing technology gives the stars of the film the appearance of swimming amid the live marine life of the 5.7-million-gallon saltwater aquarium in The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion (formerly The Living Seas). Guests aboard "clam-mobiles" float amid a coral reef where they meet Mr. Ray and his class on a field trip. They soon learn that Nemo has wandered off. A journey to find the playful clownfish ensues. Along the way, familiar characters such as Dory, Bruce, Crush and Marlin join in the search. In the musical finale of the attraction, Nemo is happily reunited with his class and friends. (Late 2006) The new Future World attraction anchors the newly renamed and re-launched The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion, an imaginative mix of fantasy with real sea life and interactive experiences such as the breakthrough "Turtle Talk With Crush."

"Finding Nemo-The Musical." At Disney's Animal Kingdom, the undersea world that charmed audiences worldwide in the Disney-Pixar motion picture "Finding Nemo" will come to life in an all-new Broadway-caliber musical stage show. Featuring original songs by Tony Award-winning "Avenue Q" co-composer-creator Robert Lopez and a cappella musical "Along the Way" composer Kristen Anderson-Lopez, "Finding Nemo-The Musical" will immerse guests in the story of Marlin and Nemo, an overprotective clownfish father and his curious son, through a dazzling production that combines puppets, dancers, acrobats and animated backdrops. The enclosed, air-conditioned Theater in the Wild will transform into an undersea world through innovative lighting, sound, special effects and the theatrical puppetry of Michael Curry, who co-designed the detailed character puppets seen in the Broadway version of Disney's "The Lion King." "Finding Nemo-The Musical" will be staged several times daily. (Previews late 2006)

Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club. Magic Kingdom guests will laugh, joke, sing songs and match wits with the beloved animated characters from Disney-Pixar's "Monsters, Inc." in an engaging and interactive attraction being created by the Disney Imagineers. Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club features one-eyed hero Mike Wazowski, who has opened a comedy club to collect laughs that will generate electricity for the monster world of Monstropolis. As Monster-of-Ceremonies, Mike recruits two comedian wannabes whose slapstick humor delights and engages audiences. Guests will even get to text-message jokes on their cell phones for possible use in the show. The fun reigns at a 400-seat theater in Tomorrowland. (Early 2007)

"Dream Along with Mickey." Several times daily, Mickey and friends treat Magic Kingdom guests to a dreams-inspired party on the forecourt stage of Cinderella Castle. Favorite Disney characters join the party as the dreams of happily-ever-after and adventure come alive on stage amid music and dancing. So strong are the dreams that they even overcome Maleficent and her intentions of turning the dreams into nightmares. A grand finale brings the 20-minute live stage show to a close.

At Disneyland Resort in California

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. Inspired by Disney-Pixar's "Finding Nemo," this all-new E-ticket adventure will take guests on a real (and unbelievable) underwater excursion. Guests are treated to a view of Nemo and friends exactly as they appear in the film -- thanks to amazing new technology and effects developed by Walt Disney Imagineering. What makes it different: Nemo and the Pixar gang will be in an actual, and incredible, three-dimensional underwater setting. (Summer 2007)

Rockin' Both Parks. Space Mountain is getting a new twist. For 16 weeks (Jan. 3-April 26, 2007), Disney's classic attraction will become a new experience in which rockets will rock it through the greatest concert adventure in the universe. All-new soundtrack will fit the exciting twists and turns of Disney's rocket classic. Along with new technology and lighting, all systems are go. Riders of California Screamin' at Disney's California Adventure Park will also be treated -- and bopping -- to a new groovin' soundtrack. On-board rock 'n roll music will be choreographed to every twist, turn and drop. With a ride track-turned-soundtrack, this is one experience guaranteed to rock guests visiting the Paradise Pier section of the park. (Spring 2007)

On top of an already magical year, special entertainment and programs will be in place at the parks and resorts so guests can follow their dreams, whether it's a princess or pirate, adventurer or space explorer. Guests will be able to customize their visit to a Disney park to pursue the Dream Paths of their choice with on-line planning tools and technology to help them become the hero or princess they've always dreamed of being.

7 June 2006: "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration

BURBANK, Calif. (June. 7, 2006) -- From an overnight stay inside Cinderella Castle to a Golden FASTPASS, dreams big and small will come true at Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts during Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams," a first-of-its-kind celebration of the individual dreams of Disney Parks guests.

The year-long celebration, beginning Oct. 1, 2006, at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, will feature the debut of an incredible lineup of new attractions and entertainment at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts, plus new technologies that allow guests to customize their Disney park experience.

And, for the first time, during the "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration, Disney cast members will award a million dreams -- both large and small, including many "money-can't-buy" experiences -- to guests selected through a random process as part of a unique "Disney Dreams Giveaway" promotion.

"Throughout this incredible celebration, special dreams and unique experiences once thought impossible will be awarded by our cast every day," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "Disney parks are always the place where dreams come true -- but even more so during the 'Year of a Million Dreams.' "

The "impossible" includes the creation of over-the-top, overnight experiences for winning guests at both East and West Coast resorts: a royal bedchamber inside Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World Resort and a Mickey Mouse Penthouse at Disneyland Resort, both expected to be complete by January 2007.

A day of royal treatment will end with a night of enchantment inside Cinderella Castle for a different lucky guest each night. Cinderella's royal bedchamber, now under construction at Magic Kingdom, will allow Disney guests to stay overnight inside the park and enjoy a view shared only by Tinker Bell. The lavishly decorated bedroom will be located in a space originally planned as an in-park apartment for the use of the Disney family.

And for a lucky Disneyland guest, each night, the all-new Mickey Mouse Penthouse at Disneyland Hotel will pour on the Mickey charm and include magical views overlooking both Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure parks. The extraordinary penthouse will be decorated in all things Mickey, with finishing touches by none other than Minnie Mouse herself.

In addition, during the year-long celebration, other Disney dreams both large and small will be awarded in the "Disney Dreams Giveaway" promotion, such as:

  • Traveling to each Disney resort around the world to serve as grand marshal in a Disney parade.
  • A variety of unique Disney vacation experiences.
  • Admission to special parties and other extraordinary experiences in the Disneyland and Walt Disney World parks.
  • Private meetings with favorite Disney characters.
  • Or, a Golden FASTPASS ticket with unique access entitlements to some of Disney's most popular attractions.
  • New Attractions and Entertainment Planned for the "Year of a Million Dreams"

Throughout the "Year of a Million Dreams" celebration, Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts will debut major new attractions:

Disneyland Resort in California

• Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage -- Inspired by Disney- Pixar's "Finding Nemo," this all-new E-ticket adventure will take guests on a real (and unbelievable) underwater excursion. (Summer 2007)

• Rockin' Space Mountain -- Space Mountain is getting a new twist. Thanks to new lighting and technology, Disney's classic attraction will become a new experience in which rockets will rock it through the greatest concert in the universe. An all-new soundtrack will fit the exciting twists and turns of Disney's rocket classic. (Spring 2007)

Walt Disney World Resort in Florida

• "The Seas with Nemo & Friends" at Epcot -- Nemo is lost -- again -- and guests aboard "clam-mobiles" join his friends to search one of the world's largest saltwater aquariums for the playful clownfish in a stunning display of new entertainment technology inspired by Disney-Pixar's "Finding Nemo." (Late 2006)

• "Finding Nemo-The Musical" at Disney's Animal Kingdom -- Also inspired by Disney-Pixar's "Finding Nemo," the Great Barrier Reef comes to colorful life in an all-new musical filled with spectacular scenery, elaborate puppetry and music by a Tony-Award-winning composer. (Late 2006)

The Laugh Floor Comedy Club at Magic Kingdom -- Guests find the power of laughter in an engaging and interactive new adventure inspired by Disney-Pixar's "Monsters, Inc." as they match wits with the one-eyed hero Mike Wazowski and his friends. (Early 2007)

Additionally, special entertainment and programs will be in place at the parks and resorts to accommodate the desires and wishes of would-be Disney Princesses, pirates, adventurers and space explorers. Guests will be able to customize their visit to a Disney park to pursue the "Dream Track" of their choice with on-line planning tools and in-park technology to help them become the hero or princess they've always dreamed of being.
